Chaos and Mayhem

William Shirer, witness to what was the Third Reich and author of the “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich,” once made an interesting and insightful comment about Germans as they stood by watching Hitler and his rise to power. “How did it happen that an ancient and cultured people steeped in Christianity, cultivating the arts and sciences, preeminent in technology who gave us Luther and Kant, Bach and Beethoven, Gorta and Einstein, collapsed into savage barbarism in the mid-20th century?”

As we contemplate our nation and especially the current political landscape, we can’t help but think about the fact that our country seems to be headed in the same direction as Germany in the mid-twentieth century. Replace the German names Shirer mentioned with the names of our own American luminaries (Washington, Jefferson, Edison, Ford, etc.) and the exact same quote could apply to us today. We may not have the same ends that Hitler had in mind (the conquering of land and the subjugation of the peoples of Europe and the world), but we seem to have a lot of the same mentality. Witness how our political leaders are intent on silencing their opponents by hook or by crook. They did all they could to keep Donald Trump, just to name one prominent example, from running for president once again with frivolous prosecutions and lawsuits. They have lied and, in today’s vernacular, gaslit us about how Trump will be the greatest threat to democracy that this nation has had to face, all along ignoring that it was just four short years ago that he was president and none of what they are so direly warning about happened then (or was even a possibility). All that is not to mention how they have turned morality upside down with their support of the transgenderism insanity.

They have told us that January 6th, 2021, was an attack upon our democracy (again!), an “insurrection,” and that it was the greatest existential threat to our country since the civil war (in some cases, even greater, they tell us—the ignorance is astounding). All along ignoring the untold damage that the BLM riots, for example, did to our nation during the summer of 2020 in the aftermath of the George Floyd affair. One is reminded again of how Hitler exploited even the killing of Nazi thugs and elevated them to near sainthood. The same thing has been done with a man who was an admitted drug user and who died in the commission of a felony. A man who was, by all accounts, as damaging to society as any was turned into some sort of model for all to follow. It is good and wholesome, you see, to riot and destroy as long as it is in the name of leftism. God help us!

Getting back to Germany and the Nazi's program for the domination of the country and the world, Gregor Strasser, one of Hitler’s confidants, the most left wing of the Nazis, and a member of his inner circle, said at one point that “We support a policy of catastrophe because catastrophe will bring down the regime,” referring to the Weimar Republic. We see the same thing today in the chaos that leftists create. It is no secret that “revolutionary” movements of all stripes engage in civil disruption in order to destroy the institutions that they see as oppressive. In order to build the utopia that the left wants to usher in, they must destroy the foundation on which our society is built before they can move forward with their program of “equality.” Changing society on the fringes will not do. It must all be scrubbed and rebuilt from the ground up.

And so, we find ourselves at a very nexus in our history. Those who complain loudest about how conservatives want to create a fascist regime are themselves the biggest fascists. Those who decry the supposed effort of some to destroy democracy are themselves the greatest threat to it. Those who warn that our “democracy is in danger,” are themselves the greatest danger to our liberties and freedoms. Witness the recently concluded Democratic National Convention. During the convention, there was a Planned Parenthood mobile van stationed prominently outside the arena offering free abortions. All of that with the enthusiastic support of the Democrats who were blabbering inside the arena about this or that perversion and how they’re going to support and encourage more depravity. How is that for a threat to liberty and freedom? I guess we all have the right to life and liberty as long as we’re not the child in the womb!

Kamala Harris promises that when she is elected president, she will do this, that, or the other. That she will fix all the problems that afflict our society (I am reminded of the lady who said, upon Obama being elected in 2008, that now she would be able to afford to pay for gas!). Of course, she makes all those promises and expects us to forget that she has been part of the administration that has destroyed our economy and further eroded the moral fabric of our society for the last four years. How are we to expect that she will be our savior when she’s the main “woman,” considering how she has messed things up so badly while being second in command? Have the Democrats not had four years to do all the things they say they are going to do with Harris as president in the next four (or, God forbid, eight)? Such claims strain the thinking of anyone with even a little common sense.

I know that comparisons with Nazi Germany are dime a dozen. Whenever someone, usually on the left side of the political divine, does not like something about conservatism they are quick to bring out the Nazi comparisons. There are times, however, when some similarities are undeniable. Such similarities are not necessarily because people are studying Nazism and attempting to emulate it. Rather, it comes from the fact that people’s nature has not changed. Thus, they are as wicked as any other and are seeking advantage whenever they can get it. Christians, on the other hand, seek the good of themselves, their neighbors, and the nation in which they find themselves. When Jeremiah spoke to the Jews immediately following their conquest by Babylon, he told them that they should seek the good of the nation in which they were captive. Today, we are to pray for our nation and seek to do it good in any way we can whenever we can. In doing so, perhaps God will grant a revival that will lead multitudes to repentance.
